EEA and Norway Grants at the Light Move Festival 2021 in Łódź

The EEA and Norway Grants support this year's Light Move Festival (LMF) in Łódź. It is the largest festival of this type in Poland. Buildings, parks and squares will be illuminated by stunning projections and illuminations. The main theme of the 11th edition of the festival will be "Connections".

Light Move Festival 2021 - Deputy Minister Waldemar Buda

Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy Waldemar Buda participated in the LMF 2021.

"The Light Move Festival in Łódź is the largest open-air cultural event in Poland and one of the largest festivals in Europe. I am glad that the EEA and Norway Grants, managed in Poland by the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy, may debut this year as a partner of this year's edition" – Deputy Minister Waldemar Buda said.

Since 2011, LMF combines the historical identity of Łódź with elements of visual art and multimedia message. The time of the pandemic has inspired this festival to be wider this year than in previous years. Additionally, some of the programme attractions will be broadcast online.

During the Light Move Festival, Łódź’s streets, nooks, forgotten courtyards and backyards turn into open art galleries. Conscious, artistic use of light emphasizes the individuality and attractiveness of Łódź and makes it an unique point on the map of Europe.

This year's LMF focuses on people. Social, spiritual and artistic ties or the place of man in the modern world are among the challenges of the 21st century.

Among the attractions, there will be an interactive LNLO installation "Talk to me", thanks to which visitors can talk to each other. Voices turn into light travelling from one end to the other. "Face" – an interactive installation that offers the public the opportunity to digitally connect with a sculpture 4.5 meters high. The bust of the sculpture displays an enlarged reflection of the viewer's face, enriched with filters, reminiscent of a distorted mirror effect. The project "Open space" – Claudia Reh from Berlin will present the process of creating an image and the work of analog projectors.

"Poland is the largest recipient of the EEA and Norway Grants – so far it has received almost EUR 2 billion. We are currently implementing the third edition of the EEA and Norway Grants, in which we have allocated nearly EUR 75 million (PLN 320 million) to culture and cultural heritage" – emphasized Deputy Minister Waldemar Buda.

The Light Move Festival in Łódź will last until September 26, 2021.
