Beekeeping culture has recently been entered on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It happened by decision of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage during the 15th session in Paris.
You can read about traditional beekeeping and its role in the ecosystem on the website of the Augustów Forest District, which implemented the project "Traditional beekeeping as a salvation of wild bees in forests", co-financed underthe EEA and Norway Grants 2009-2014.
The aim of the project was to spread knowledge about the role of bees in ecosystems and increase social awareness of the need to actively protect native breeds of bees, as well as to improve the living conditions of wild bees.
As part of it, various proposals addressed to general publichave been prepared: educational paths with guides, multimedia kiosks, exhibitions and an information and educational campaign.
